Motorcycle Fatality in Oshawa

A 23-year-old Whitby man was killed early this morning following a single motor vehicle collision on Gibb Street near Limerick Street in the City of Oshawa.

On Monday July 12, 2010 at approximately 2:25 a.m., officers from the Central West Division were called to the scene of a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle. A blue Yamaha motorcycle, being driven by a Whitby man, was westbound on Gibb Street approaching Limerick Street, when the driver lost control and struck a curb on the north side. The driver was thrown from the motorcycle as a result of the collision and sustained life- threatening injuries.

The driver was taken to Lakeridge Health Oshawa hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He is identified as Michael POTTER, age 23, of Kendalwood Road, in Whitby.

Members of the Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. A section of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. Police are still investigating if speed and alcohol were factors in this collision.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have information or witnessed this incident.
