| Gunpoint Robbery at Movie Theatre Investigators are asking the public to help identify a suspect after employees at an Ajax movie theatre were robbed at gunpoint Saturday night. On Saturday, August 16th, 2008 at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers from 19 Division (Ajax-Pickering) were called to the Cineplex Odeon movie theatres near the corner of Kingston Road East (Highway 2) and Harwood Avenue in Ajax. A lone male had forced the staff into the back room at gunpoint and fled out the back door with a quantity of cash. Officers recovered the cash bag in a nearby field and set up a perimeter around the complex. The K-9 Unit followed a track north of the complex but the suspect was not located. The cash was returned to the movie theatre. Further investigation indicated the weapon was probably a realistic-looking pellet or paintball handgun. The suspect is described as: male, black, 5'10" tall, medium build, wearing a black hooded sweater, black pants and black shoes. Anyone with information that can help identify this suspect is asked to contact Det. Jim Houston of the Robbery Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5360. Anonymous tips can be made to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
