Belle
Falls novelist addresses local writers
Sherri
Vanderveen appears at September writers’ breakfast
Toronto
novelist Sherri Vanderveen shares her road to publication at the WCDR
(Writers’ Circle of Durham Region) breakfast meeting Saturday,
September 13th. Her dark debut novel, Belle Falls, peers into the life
of a woman, an accused child molester, haunted by memories and twisted
with despair. Vanderveen’s second book, The Hobbyist, hits the
shelves in 2009.
About Belle Falls:
“On the surface, [Belle] Dearing is a familiar character; every
community has its own ‘crazy old woman’ … whom the
local children call a witch, and whom local parents warn their darlings
to avoid at all costs. No one is born a “crazy old woman,”
however, and Vanderveen skilfully exposes the roots of Belle’s
eccentricities and despair.”
